ABSTRACT

Part II of this work presents a study of consonant/vowel interaction in Maltese Arabic. I focus on the class of triliteral strong verbs and examine the realization of, in particular, the imperfective form of these verbs. In this chapter I examine the typical formation of imperfectives as well as a subset of these verbs which appear exceptional. I will have more to say about this just below. The analyses presented in this chapter provide necessary background for those of the following chapter where I focus more exclusively on coronal vowel and consonant parallelisms in Maltese.
