ABSTRACT

This chapter contains a guided tour around the literature on polarity phenomena. I present it from two points of view: the evolution of a typology and the shaping of the phenomenon. I address the previous research chronologically, and describe the interaction between the evolution of the research on this topic and linguistic work within the same frameworks; and the treatment of certain items for which an altenative analysis is discussed in the rest of this study. In view of this, this chapter is not to be read as a complete diachronic review.
