ABSTRACT
This chapter contains a discussion of work by Ladusaw (1979, 1980), Zwarts (1991, 1993a, b) and Dowty (1993, 1994b); the theoretical background of this dissertation. They propose analyses of negative polarity based on notions like monotonic functions, filters and ideals. 1
