ABSTRACT

In this chapter I will examine the significance of Murakami and Rohlen’s eight characteristics of Japanese organizational practices at my case study company, Suntech America. As I mentioned in chapter two, the process of data collection in the Midwest and California was based almost solely upon interviews with Japanese and American managers, but not with production workers. My visits of transplants in the Midwest and in California were most often for only one day. Therefore, I needed to examine in depth one particular company. At Suntech, I collected information through extensive interviews and on going conversation with both managers and production workers for a period of four months.
