ABSTRACT

French vice admiral and minister of marine, October 1915 to August 1917. Born at Pierrefonds (Oise) on 22 June 1860, Lacaze entered the Ecole Navale in 1877 and served as chef du cabinet to Minister of Marine Théophile Delcassé from 1911 to 1913. He assumed the same office himself near the end of the Dardanelles campaign and apparently would have been prepared to support a new naval attempt to force the Straits.
