ABSTRACT

Casualty Figures Any effort to compile casualty statistics on World War II needs to be accompanied by the disclaimer that there are few entirely reliable statistics avail able. Figures given here were compiled by U.S. defense agencies and several other sources. These statistics are approximate figures only and fre quently given in round numbers. Widely differing figures are available from a variety of other equally reputable sources. Statistics from developed coun tries tend to be more accurate than those from less developed ones, and battle casualties more accurate than civilian casualties.
