ABSTRACT
N acht u n d N ebel (Night and Fog) Nacht und Nebel (Night and Fog) involved a prac tice by the Nazis during World War II of arresting people considered enemies of the Reich. Adolf Hitler (q.v.) signed a decree on 7 December 1941, that information would not be provided on arrested people and no contact would be allowed between them and friends, relatives, or other persons out side. Thus, in Germany, arrested people just dis appeared as far as their family or friends knew. No exceptions were permitted and arrested persons were given no hearing or trial unless “special cir cumstances” warranted.
