ABSTRACT
Falkenhausen, Alexander von (1878-1966) German general. A professional soldier of the old school, Falkenhausen served as military governor of occupied Belgium and northern France from 1940-1944. Born in Blumenthal on 29 October 1878, he served with the Turkish Army in Pales tine during World War I. Retained by the Reichs wehr after: the war, he headed the German military mission to China from 1934 to 1938. He was re called to active duty in 1939 and appointed mili tary governor in September 1940.
