Nassau-Weilburg, Charlotte von (1895-1985) Grand duchess of Luxembourg. Charlotte von Nassau-Weilburg became grand duchess at age twenty-three in January 1919. The people of Lux embourg demanded annulment of the republic and abdication of Charlotte’s sister. Charlotte was a popular, democratic monarch who stabilized the country, and as a result, the dynasty was retained.
