ABSTRACT

The reversing drum could be moved closer to or away from the rotors with a lever. The three rotors had twenty-six letters placed along their rims, each rotor about a half-inch wide, with the topmost letters being visible beneath the little win dows in the lid. On the side of the machine, pro truding slightly, were serrated disks for the ma nipulation of the rotors. Each rotor had twenty-six spring-loaded contacts on the other side. The fixed contacts were connected with the spring-loaded one in an irregular fashion by insulated wires pass ing through the ebonite heart of the rotor. The reversing drum had only spring-loaded contacts connected among themselves in pairs on one face in an irregular fashion.
