ABSTRACT

The Bantam Car Corporation developed a four-wheel-drive vehicle that was tested and ap proved by the Ordnance Department. In 1940, procurement was initiated, but the ability of Ban tam to meet their forecasted output was ques tioned. At that point, the Ford Motor Company and the Willys-Overland Company were allowed to submit vehicles for testing and the Willys ver sion was standardized as the new army vehicle. As it turned out, only Willys and Ford ended up pro ducing the vehicle.
