ABSTRACT

The potential for conflict between work and family for most employed persons is great. While the issue of taking care of home-based situations has traditionally been viewed as a female concern, research suggests males have similar concerns. They are also challenged by attempts to balance career and family matters (Shellenbarger 1992). Men are relaxing their work commitments as family considerations are increasing in importance (Friedman 1987). As organizations strive to address work-family issues, human-resource (HR) professionals will be called upon to play a major role in developing and implementing work-family interface policies (Nollen 1989).
