ABSTRACT

The concepts of "housework" and "household labor" create an image of boring, repetitive, and distasteful chores that need to be attended to on a daily basis. Numerous studies have sought to explain the division of household in terms of its correlates, history, and future. However, one common trait among these studies is that wives, or women in general, typically do much more work within the home than do husbands (Blair and Lichter 1991).
