ABSTRACT
Sweden is known for its many efforts at promoting gender equality in education, in the family, and in employment. Through legislation and social programs, the Swedish government has been the primary force behind these efforts. While these state actions have yet to bring full equality for Swedish men and women, the policies have shown success in certain areas, such as in increasing the involvement of women in paid work. As such, Sweden provides a unique example of government attempts to achieve gender equity.
