ABSTRACT
Between 1970 and 1990, the percentage of women lawyers in the United States rose from less than 3 percent to 22 percent. Women now constitute more than 40 percent of each law school graduating class. These figures represent a significant advance of women into a high-prestige profession. Yet, this decline in traditional entry barriers to the profession has highlighted barriers to women's advancement to the top ranks.
