ABSTRACT
A woman is officially defined as unemployed if she is seeking paid work but is unable to find a job. As a demographic group, women generally experience a higher unemployment rate than men. Women suffer adverse consequences of unemployment as wives, daughters, and as unemployed persons themselves. There are often economic and psychological impacts. Public policies are needed to strengthen the situation of unemployed women as well as men. In addition, specific policies are required to address the particular situation of women.
