ABSTRACT

"The full-fledged entry of women into the labor market represents one of the most important social changes in the American economy" (National Organization for Women 1985, p. 59). Today, of the fifty-five million workers, 44 percent are women, according to Mary Murphy of the U.S. Women's Bureau, speaking at the Fourth International Interdisciplinary Congress on Women, in New York, June 1990. The makeup of the workforce is constantly changing. Within the next decade a major portion of the workforce will be composed of women, minorities, and immigrants, and highly technological skills will be required.
