ABSTRACT

Orange Gardens is a privately developed retirement “subdivision” in central Florida. It has no medical opportunities for its residents and limited recreational facilities. The housing is all conventionally built, single-family homes and there are no age restrictions regarding residency. Orange Gardens has the distinction of being the first subdivision in the country to be architecturally designed for retirement living. Since it opened in 1955, it has remained a clearly identifiable, unviolated, surburban-type neighborhood. A site plan of Orange Gardens is illustrated in Figure 4.1. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315059198/c585e10e-b8a2-4ca9-b27f-8d48fbb72cca/content/fig4_1_B.tif" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
