ABSTRACT
A key element in the designer's visual language is the means by which stage space can be manipulated within a time sequence. During any performance, whatever the style, there will certainly be a progression of time and this may possibly also involve changes of place. The various means of handling such changes are a major constituent of a designer's visual vocabulary. Like everything else that happens on a stage, the chosen method will both derive from, and contribute to, the overall production style.
