ABSTRACT

The thirtieth anniversary of the Art Theatre in 1928 marked a turning point in its life. Stanislavski suffered a heart attack during a gala performance of Act One of Three Sisters and never appeared on stage again. The last ten years of his life were passed as a semi-invalid. He worked when he could and against the advice of his doctors. He was absent from the theatre from late 1928 to late 1930, during which time his only contribution was to write two-thirds of a production plan for Othello.
