The first night of The Seagull marked the true birth of the Art Theatre. ‘Tsar Fiodor’ had been impressive and spectacular. ‘The Seagull’ was unique. When, in 1902, the company moved into its own building an emblematic seagull was sewn onto the front curtain as the theatre's symbol.
