ABSTRACT

Mistress (Margaret) Page is the Elizabethan equivalent of a suburban housewife, happily married to the mild and cheerful George, and mother to Anne and William. She hardly knows the famously fat and debauched Sir John Falstaff (‘he hath not been thrice in my company’), but she has just received this love letter from him. She is generally a good humoured and charming lady. Although she is generally played in her forties, she could be as young as thirty.
