ABSTRACT

The Second Queen is one of three who suddenly appear to interrupt the wedding of Theseus (Duke of Athens) and Hippolyta (Queen of the Amazons). The Queens’ husbands (their ‘sovereigns’) have been killed in an attack on Thebes. Creon (King of Thebes) ordered that their bodies should not be buried as a warning to others who might try the same thing. The first Queen has appealed to Theseus for revenge against Creon and he is very distressed at these events and needs time to think. She is followed by the second Queen who appeals to Hippolyta. We know nothing more about her, so she could be almost any age you like.
