In the real world – the world outside stages and exhibitions – windows are constructed to high specifications due to the relentless nature of the elements. Rain, frost, sunshine and wind have ensured the ongoing development of window construction; special joints have now been devised that reduce the risk of timber rot or failure. Metal windows have followed an equally sophisticated ‘learning curve’.
