ABSTRACT

At first sight, a staircase seems such a simple concept. It is only when one comes to try and make one that certain problems begin to surface. Luckily, it is easier to draw a stair than to build one – and drawing is our subject here. Clearly, a certain amount of basic construction knowledge is required before attempting a drawing of a staircase, but, more importantly, it is vital to be aware of the rules and regulations governing the final proportions.
