ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates how important it is to use professional dance works as exemplars in teaching dance composition. It analysed to demonstrate how teachers and students of dance composition could derive great benefit from the use of multimedia resources. Laban's analysis is the most comprehensive and appropriate analytical tool for dance appreciation and composition. The visual dance exemplification presented on CD as digital video is accompanied by text, both on disc and in the Resource Book, explains the theory behind the tasks set for students and the methods. The disc clearly describes the purpose of the work to develop appreciation of the form in the choreography through identification of the choreographic devices. The content of the Wild Child pack might be in delivering multiple visual exemplifications of most of the theory, the fact that it utilises a technology beyond linear video, also appropriately extends the resource-based teaching methodology into the next millennium.
