ABSTRACT

Charles Atlas, dubbed “America's Most Perfectly Developed Man” by publisher Bernarr Macfadden, has been a household name in America throughout most of the twentieth century. During his heyday, three generations of comic books and pulp magazines carried his famous advertisement which featured him in a bikini bathing suit, legs planted firmly in hot, white sand, requesting only a five-day trial to turn any 97-pound weakling into a tower of strength.
