ABSTRACT

Every National Football League season seems to produce one headlines-grabbing player from out of left field; in 1988 it was Cincinnati rookie running back Elbert “Ickey” Woods. Ickey, the nickname he acquired back in infancy because his older brother Rodney mispronounced his given name, became known as the originator of perhaps the hottest dance step (certainly the most imitated) of the post-disco era.
