ABSTRACT

“Personal watercraft” * (PWCs) were developed as early as 1968, beginning with Bombardier's “water scooter.” It proved to be ahead of its time and quietly disappeared following several seasons on the market. PWCs began to reappear in the 1980s; however, the first models–e.g., Ultranautics Wetbike and the standup Kawasaki Jet Ski–required practice and a reasonable degree of athletic skill.
