ABSTRACT

Cycling is one of the most universal modes of transport and it is the principal mode of urban personal port transport in the two most populous countries of the world: China and India. It has also the advantage of being the most environment-friendly and nonpolluting means of transport. Much of international trade is seaborne, and a nation's share of this traffic is represented by the cargo nation's handled by its ports. In all but a few countries, freight traffic is not only the principal source of railway revenues but also the only cause for its continued existence. Railway passenger traffic has been steadily declining over the years until it has ceased to be economically viable in many countries, requiring state intervention and subsidies on a large sale. In terms of length and intensity of use, roads dwarf both railroads and inland waterways.
