ABSTRACT

LH (luteinizing horm one): a hormone that is produced by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. In females, it is produced during the first part of the reproduc tive cycle. It travels in the blood to its target organ, the ovary, where it stimulates ovulation and causes the follicle cells remaining in the ovary to develop into the corpus luteum, which secretes progesterone during the second half of the reproductive cycle. LH is also produced in males, where it stimulates interstitial cells in the testes to produce testosterone.
