ABSTRACT

Our purpose with these next few chapters is not to become skilled diagnosticians. Instead we want to continue our approach, that is, to understand how our personalities affect investment performance. This chapter discusses our emotional life. For the sake of clarity we separate thinking and emotion, though in reality there is often a mixture. For example, a person can have a thought disorder and also show severe depression. If you really want to know about disorders, check out the most complete diagnostic manual, the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition (known as DSM-IV).
