ABSTRACT

Future energy supplies from mineral fuels depend ultimately on the quantities of coal, oil, gas, uranium, and other mineral fuels within the earth—and on the costs of extracting these supplies and delivering them to the consumer in useful form. Beyond the traditional categories of mineral fuels there are other energy sources, such as solar energy, geothermal energy, and nuclear fusion. The technologies for their application, which is the decisive factor in their potential usefulness, will be considered in later chapters.
