ABSTRACT

First impressions are hard to shake, whether of person or place. Further experience and observation may modify or reveal error, but all subsequent revisions are in some form variations on or counterpoint to the original theme. The initial encounter gives rise to firmly held convictions or prejudices illuminating or clouding our perception of all that follows. Or it becomes a constant point of original reference even when it is admittedly erroneous and thus continues to exert an influence in determining what is finally accepted as the reality of the subject.
