ABSTRACT
The topographic features produced by Alaska's geologic evolution influenced and to a large degree controlled the evolution of the total natural environment—climate, vegetative cover, wildlife, accessibility—and in turn that of human habitation and development. Our story must start, therefore, with a discussion of the principal land forms and regions of Alaska, and with a brief survey of the resources with which the area is endowed.
