ABSTRACT

The communication frequencies that constitute the radio spectrum are a natural resource essential to living in the modern world. Without radio and radar, travel by land, sea, and air would be much slower and less safe. The construction, mining, manufacturing, and distribution industries use spectrum in the processing and delivery of materials. Public safety and national security depend heavily on radio and other uses of spectrum. Whatever the payoff of the space program, it would have been impossible without the most sophisticated use of spectrum. Television and radio broadcasts are as much a part of modern life as the air man breathes.
