ABSTRACT

Continuous improvements in the techniques that contribute to scale economies have had significant effects upon water supply. The techniques may be grouped as follows: (1) those that enable the construction of single facilities with wide effectiveness and coverage, like a large-scale dam and reservoir; (2) those that facilitate the interrelated operation of two or more units of supply into a co-ordinated, or integrated system; and (3) those that facilitate the interrelation of systems of supply with units of demand on an appropriately large geographical scale.
