ABSTRACT

The effects of technology upon the development of water resources must be considered in terms of the physical environment in which water occurs. Water is to be found everywhere on earth, and men require it daily. Yet water is supplied by nature in no two localities exactly in the same manner as to quality, amount, timing, and mode of occurrence. Furthermore, men's requirements are specialized, their general uses having a relatively low tolerance of mineralization or other impurity. The greatest bodies of water on earth, the seas and oceans, thus far have been the least versatile for man's use.
