ABSTRACT

This chapter examines activities that an LEA can co-ordinate will vary, but some examples are included: the setting up and co-ordination of an LEA-wide database; specific training for Learning Support Unit (LSU) managers; helping schools across an LEA with the primary-secondary transfer process; regular network sessions for LSU managers to share good practice and facilitate the dissemination of up-to-date information relevant to managers and schools implementing the initiative. The LEA has an important role to play in providing advice and consultation, support and training for schools in the implementation of the LSU initiatives, and also specifically for LSU managers so that networks can be set up and maintained. The LSU managers were kept informed of developments, as were the schools' EiC managers and the Partnership Heads. It was important that we gave plenty of time for staff to input the first set of data and have access to IT support.
