ABSTRACT

This activity will build on the experience of young children, many of whom will have flown themselves to go on package holidays and to visit relatives, or who have visited an airport to meet, or say goodbye to, relatives and friends. Your setting may be in the flight path of an airport, in which case the children will be familiar with the drone of passing aircraft and the flashes of light reflected as the sun catches the planes. This is flight produced in a different way to the butterflies and the birds. The aeroplane has wings but the power comes from the engine, which needs fuel in the same way as a car does.
