ABSTRACT

A description of ‘network leadership’ introduces this interview with Dr Andrew Morris, Director of the National Educational Research Foundation (NERF). Andrew discusses the relatively weak evidence base for educational research in leadership, summing up NERF’s role as an organisation providing a strategic coherence across research, working across sectors in a catalytic way to improve education. From extremely formative early positive experiences in learning, Andrew has drawn great strength in envisioning an organic paradigm of learning as continuous growth. He is optimistic that evidence-based research can provide ideas and networked leadership through systemic solutions and socially scientific designs for learning for the benefit of clients. He regards learning as being ‘as natural as breathing’ – throughout his life, this vision has progressively developed: his mission is to help people to learn.
