If it is decided that the learner is making good progress and no longer needs extra help, their name can be removed from the special needs record. However, they must continue to be supported through whole class differentiation. Teachers must be aware that taking away support can sometimes inadvertently cause regression. Should there be deterioration in learning or in self-esteem, the child should be placed back on the special needs register with support.
