ABSTRACT

As countries get richer, the population grows more slowly. The world’s population doubled in the second half of the 20th century, passing 6 billion at the start of the 21st. The rate of growth has slowed, especially in the two most populous countries – China and India – but on current trends the total will exceed 9 billion by 2050, with Africa and parts of the Middle East growing fastest. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315065953/7bf0213c-a136-4311-af98-6f56ec81a0c2/content/pg18_B.jpg" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
