ABSTRACT
Every day during 2007 over 6,800 people became infected with HIV, and over 5,700 people died from AIDS, mostly because of inadequate access to HIV prevention and treatment services. Sub-Saharan Africa is the worst-affected region, with widespread infection having a devastating social and economic impact.
