ABSTRACT
Everything that runs, runs on energy. As countries get richer, they use more energy, though in some countries energy use declines as their economy shifts from manufacturing to information and service sectors. Most energy comes from oil, gas, coal and uranium – non-renewable sources whose exploitation carries risks of pollution, sometimes to catastrophic effect.
