ABSTRACT

Brazil's plans for energy production to the year 2010 have been detailed in the government's “2010 Plan”. Released in 1987, the Plan covers Brazil's proposed energy development programmes from that year. The focus of the Plan is to supply energy for Brazil by utilizing the country's hydroelectric potential, the great majority of which is concentrated in the Amazonian rivers. The Amazon is seen as the source for Brazil's increasing industrialization; the provider of the electric energy which will make possible the country's continued development.
