ABSTRACT
Energy, although still not officially considered as a basic human need, is essential for human well-being and forms the driving power of economic development. Within households, energy is needed to cook food, to boil water and to heat and light the home. These are women's tasks, and this chapter shows how the energy sector links environmental conditions directly with the situation of women.
