ABSTRACT

Because a mother provides nourishment for the child from her own body and because of women’s universal child-bearing function, their role in providing food to the world population is colossal – far greater than their role in actual farming. The 1991 world population was 5.4 billion and rising, of whom slightly under half – 2.63 billion – were female. Half of these women at least must be capable of bearing children. The majority of these 1.3 billion actually become mothers, several times over in many cases.
