ABSTRACT
The key measure of success of any recycling scheme is the amount of material which is diverted from the normal disposal route. This is usually expressed as a percentage. For example, the government’s target is to divert 25 per cent of all household waste from disposal routes by recycling the waste instead of burying or burning it, and this target is to be achieved by the year 2000.
