ABSTRACT

A. OVERVIEW In this chapter, we use the scenario calculations in Chapter 1.2 and the discussion of non-fossil trace gases in Chapter 1.3 to determine an approximate concentration limit for carbon dioxide. We then translate this concentration limit into a global fossil carbon lJudget. The next step is to calculate how much fossilderived energy this budget represents assuming different mixes of coal, oil, and gas. Finally, we explore what share of current global fossil resources can still be burned under this carbon budget.
